Hello world, I'm the oldie newbie! I got into web development (in what feels like) the most arse-backwards way possible. I started as a typical college dropout with a resume full of crappy desk jobs and a hobby of hacking together websites and playing with WordPress code. I don't even remember when people started paying me to code websites for them, but 8 years ago I quit my crappy desk job and became a happy, destitute freelance WordPress developer.
And so, here I am in a really weird place. I've got a career that spans hundreds of websites and thousands of hours of learning technologies to assist clients, feeling like I need to start all over again as a junior developer because I've never worked on a team before ever, nor have I worked a project big enough to need Git. I have enough hard skills to be as good or better as that crappy developer on the team, but I know more about running the company than I do about the IDE the team uses.
So, yeah. This is the story of trying to get my first tech job.
